Aufgrund der widersprüchlichen Ergebnisse bleibt die Bedeutung des Placeboeffekts auch weiterhin unklar. Unter Berücksichtigung geeigneter Behandlungsprogramme (psychologische Abklärung, Physiotherapie, Aneignung geeigneter Bewegungsmuster, psychologisches Verhaltenstraining) könnte der Thermokoagulation eine Katalysatorfunktion zukommen, da nach Schmerzreduktion zweckgerichtetes Training zum Muskelaufbau (Aufschulung der Muskulatur) leichter durchführbar ist.
